UK Snow map

Someone appears to have found some use for all these people on twitter yelling about what they’re doing to the rest of the world. As David Thorne’s friend Bill  asks, ‘Why would I want anybody I don’t know knowing what I am doing? I don’t yell out to everyone in the supermarket “I am buying oranges” so why would I want to do it on my internet?’. He’s completely correct.

Anyway, apparently as twitterers report snow in their area, points are added to the map at http://uksnow.benmarsh.co.uk/, creating a snowfall map. Somebody could make an snow detector and have it tweet automatically. That’d show the Met Office, with their established set of weather stations across the country! More power to the cloud!

It’s going to be awesome.

“We are pleased to inform you that your submission ‘Analysing Temporally Annotated Corpora with CAVaT’ has been accepted for an Oral presentation”. Yeah! “This is a well written and presented paper”. Of course it is, do you know why? Because I am awesome and modest!

CAVaT is up on Google Code at http://code.google.com/p/cavat/ .

Pretty awesome, huh?
